For the past 26 years, the Charleston Conference has attracted information professionals (especially academic librarians) to this namesake charming city in South Carolina in mid-November. The 4-day conference, organized by Katina Strauch (see the sidebar), head of collection development at the College of Charleston Library, started out small but has grown to a record 1,019 registrants and more than 200 speakers. This year's theme of Unintended Consequences produced high-quality content; humorous skits; interaction with the speakers at "lively lunches," "table talks," and a "beastly breakfast"; and a preconference exhibit the day before the main conference.
