Houston's overcast skies in mid-January seemed to reflect the clouds of controversy that rolled in just prior to the SLA Leadership Summit, which was held Jan. 18-21. The catalyst was a message from SLA president Pam Rollo on the leadership discussion list. She explained that the association had decided on a job title change for SLA's top staffer Janice Lachance, whose title would be changed from executive director to CEO. Rollo's note on that list, which was reprinted and posted to at least one other list, prompted impassioned discussions before the start of the Leadership Summit. The official press release from SLA about the title change appeared the week after the summit.
