摘要

Epidemiologists have a term for when a lot of small changes seem to have little or no effect until they combine to reach a critical mass. This is the "tipping point," defined by one source as "the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point, a place where the unexpected becomes expected, where radical change is more than a possibility. It is a certainty." When the tipping point arrives, gravity joins the forces of change, creating a rush of momentum that can leave observers wondering how they could ever have doubted the inevitable victory. For example, when I saw prime-time television shows posting URLs on their opening credits, for me that marked the tipping point of the Internet's arrival as a new mass media.
