摘要

One of the most amusing trademark lawsuits of all time was recently filed. On Sept. 10, OCLC sued The Library Hotel (located in New York) for trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising. OCLC accuses the lodging of illegally using the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system. The Library Hotel opened in August 2000, not far from The New York Public Library. As a themed hotel, each of the facility's 10 floors is categorized by the Dewey Decimal system, as is its book collection of 10,000-plus volumes. Guests can request a room on a floor of interest or wander the Poetry Garden, Writer's Den, and Executive Inspiration Room (a conference room) to search for books to borrow. The hotel also offers special travel packages that cleverly incorporate the Dewey Decimal scheme.
