The World Solar Challenge as it is popularly known is an international biennial race where participants (mainly students) build solar vehicles that traverse from Darwin to Adelaide, Australia, covering a distance of over 3000km. In October 2011, a team of 11 NTU students undertook the journey with their solar vehicle, the Nanyang Venture V, after spending over a year designing and building it. During the race, they endured heat and dust, temperatures in the shade beyond 40 degrees Celsius, bushfires and believe it or not, rainstorms. In spite of it all, on their return, most of the team vowed to repeat it in 2 years' time.
