Smartphones have opened up a new world of communication capabilitiesrnfor users with their growing portfolio of applications, or apps. As their usernburgeons, smartphones must be recharged more often. A group of researchersrnbased at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, Intel Corp. in Santa Clara,rnCalifornia, and a startup firm, Mobile Enerlytics LLC, also in West Lafayette, hasrnconducted a groundbreaking and international study of smartphone usage to create a software tool that reduces energy drain in these mobile devices byrnapproximately 16%.
