The Pentagon's acquisition and sustainment office is exploring whether the Defense Department should shift to a model where it pays contractors to defend some U.S. military installations from unmanned aerial systems, rather than using government personnel and systems. Chris O'Donnell, deputy assistant secretary of defense for platform and weapon portfolio management within the office of the under secretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment, said DOD may be using the wrong model for countering UAS at military bases located in the United States.
