Even banks with the most experience in Russian equity markets say they were surprised by the sheer extent of the Russian IPO boom of the past three years. Says Gergely Voros, managing director for European equity capital markets at Morgan Stanley: "I started covering this market four years ago. We anticipated there would be increased market activity, but no one expected it would be at this level -not us, nor any of the other top investment banks. Not even the local brokers expected it. They were behind us in building teams for Russian IPOs."
