It was often said in the past that if you had a job in insurance you had a job for life. And if you had a job in IT within insurance, well then you were as safe as houses! How things have changed. Today, with all the current spate of mergers and acquisitions, and the over-riding focus on cost reduction, insurance is not the safe haven it once was and the level of redundancies and early retirements continues to grow. Interestingly it is often the IT boys, in what were once considered ivory towers, that are getting hit the hardest. I know this to be true from visiting clients, by the fall-off in recruitment advertising, and by the number of unsolicited calls Wasp has received from people wanting work.
