The 70/100-seat regional jet contest in Europe — which until now has been a head-to-head straggle between Embraer and Bombardier (see box) — could soon be disrupted by the arrival of a new contender in the form of the Sukhoi SuperJet 100, as the former Russian Regional Jet (RRJ) is now known. Sukhoi is determined to carve out a slice of the action on a market in which Embraer, the only manufacturer to offer a complete family of products across the entire 70-100 seat segment, seems to have established a dominant position for the medium term.
