It is not every day that Lockheed Martin Advanced Development Programs (ADP), better known as the Skunk Works, briefs on its activities, but in September 2002, at the Air Force Association in Washington, the secretive technology front-end of the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company did exactly that. The message was clear: having helped to secure the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programme for the corporation with the X-35 concept demonstrator, the Skunk Works is ready to compete in other fields―unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) foremost amongst them.
