Though visitor numbers were down on 2004, exhibitors maintained they were satisfied with new business contacts achieved at the 27th Decosit and at the fifth edition of the parallel DecoContract, in Brussels last September. Decosit focuses on upholsteries and draperies destined for the residential and contract markets, while the younger DecoContract, as the title implies, concentrates on textiles for the contract market with special emphasis on the hospitality sector. Decosit featured more than 300 exhibitors with the strongest European contingents coming from Belgium, Italy and Spain, followed by Great Britain, France and Germany. However, the organisers point out that the show is taking on an increasingly global character, and included 15 percent of non-European exhibitors (excluding the US). Over the four days of the show, Decosit attracted a total of 11,566 visitors (12,474 in 2004) and DecoContract 6,282 (6,839 in 2004). Patrick Geysels of Textirama, manager of the event, cited prevailing conditions including a saturated European market, cautious buying, the high Euro and Asian competition as factors contributing to the modest decline in numbers. The top three countries to field buyers were Germany (replacing UK in pole position), UK and France. Textirama, however, point out that visitors from Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, South Africa, Ukraine, Russia, Poland and Japan were increasing and compensated for some of the shrinkage.
