Without a doubt the invention of the computer is as important for human kind as the plough which made agriculture possible and the steam engine which heralded the industrial revolution. Without the plough we would still be bands of hunters and gatherers living from hand to mouth because we would not be able to grow enough food. Without the steam engine we would be condemned to producing only goods that our muscles and those of our domestic animals can muster.
