The geared fan is one of the most important single major developments in the field of commercial aircraft propulsion since the dawn of the jet age. What advantages does it have over conventional engines? The PurePower Geared Turbofan cut fuel consumption by 16 percent, reduces regulated emissions by 50 percent and lower the noise footprint by 70 percent. The engine also reduces the number of parts in the hot section of the engine.
