Germany's biggest generator RWE and Europe's biggest gas exporter Gazprom have agreed to work together on power projects in northwest Europe. If it progresses to its logical conclusion, the deal will enable Gazprom for the first time to capture the full value chain, from gas production in Russia to power sales in one of its major markets. The high margin in power sales will help recompense Gazprom for the transport component of the price of its gas delivered through its Nord Stream line: some of its long-term contract holders have baulked at that, preferring to continue taking gas at Waidhaus instead of Greifswald (IGR 676/22).
