Empresa Electrica Corani, a subsidiary of Bolivia's state-owned power supplier Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (ENDE), has commissioned the 69 MW San Jose Ⅱ hydroelectric plant in the central department of Cochabamba. An official inauguration ceremony, which was attended by President Evo Morales, was held on 9 June. The plant, in the province of Chapare, is the second of two run-of-river stations, comprising the 124 MW San Jose complex, to be built under an EPC contract by Sinohydro, a unit of the Chinese state engineering group PowerChina, at a total estimated cost of US$ 287.5 million. The 55 MW San Jose I plant entered service in January 2018 (see H&D Issue 2, 2018). Each plant is equipped with two Pelton turbines sup-plied by Andritz Hydro. Financing for the two-plant cascade was provided by the Latin American development bank, the Andean Development Corporation or Corporation Andina de Fomento (CAF), which contributed 33 per cent of the total cost (US$ 94.88 million) as well as the Central Bank of Bolivia, with the balance funded by ENDE.
