Kokumbo Energies, a subsidiary of the UK-based, Africa-focused renewable energy developer EleQtra, has selected the engineering consultancy Knight Piesold to conduct a feasibility study for a 27.7 MW run-of-river hydro project on the river Bandama in the Gagnoa District of Cote d'lvoire. The study will be funded with a grant from the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). The project is expected to be completed and operational in early 2022, USTDA announced on 21 August, and will meet the country's growing energy demand, while creating new jobs. EleQtra signed an agreement with the Government of the Cote d'lvoire in January 2017 to develop the project on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis, as well as to connect the plant to the national grid.
