Hydro-Quebec has awarded a contract to Voith for the replacement of six units at the 204 MW Rapide- Blanc hydropower station in northern Quebec. The contract will entail the complete replacement of removable turbine and generator parts, the refurbishment of all embedded components and installation of digitally-controlled governor units, Voith announced on 19 June. The rehabilitation of the plant's six units will increase production by about 10 per cent with the same amount of water, said Voith, adding that the components will be designed to last at least 70 years.
