Electricite de France (EDF) inaugurated on 14 October the expanded La Coche pumped-storage plant in the Isere Valley, Savoie, in the French Alps. The new 240 MW surface powerplant at the existing 320 MW La Coche pumped-storage plant was inaugurated by Jean-Bernard Levy, EDF Group's Chairman and Chief Executive, in the presence of members of local government and representatives of the local and re-gional authorities. The new station, which cost € 150 million, and is equipped with France's most powerful Pelton turbine supplied by Andritz Hydro, was designed to increase availability of the existing plant by 30 per cent to 90 per cent, by improving maintenance and operation, increasing peak power production by 20 per cent and increasing pure power production by 100 GWh/year as well as increasing the facility's provision of ancillary services.
