In general, causes such as piping, overtopping and foundation problems can result in dam failures. Therefore, it is important to predict the breach parameters accurately for dam break modelling. The breach outflow hydrographs for Temengor, Bersia, Kenering and Chenderoh dams yielded peak values of 328 210 m~3/s, 216 366 m~3/s, 191 019 m~3/s and 112 277 m~3/s, respectively. The breach outflow hydrograph with this scenario has the potential to flood the area downstream of the dams. The total inundated area for this scenario was about 3511.6 km~2. The flood wave could be expected to travel to the Sg. Perak river mouth, affecting major towns and villages close to the river banks. The flood impact on the town of Gerik would be most severe, as it is just 28 km from Temengor dam. Gerik would be hit by the flood four hours after a breach of Temengor dam, with a maximum flood depth of 45.7 m. In conditions where a dam breach is caused by a PMF failure, it can be assumed to cause more damage, as people living downstream will not have taken advance precautions, but will only have time for warnings and evacuation.
