Velcan of Luxembourg announced on 23 August the sale of its majority interest in the 59 MW Meureubo 2 hydropower project in the West Aceh province in Sumatra, Indonesia, to a Hong Kong-based investor. "The transaction follows several months of administrative uncertainty, which have stalled the PPA process with PT-PLN, the national utility", the company announced. Velcan held a 75 per cent stake in the special purpose vehicle PT Aceh Hydro Power, which had been set up in October 2013 in consortium with PT-PJB, a fully owned subsidiary of the state power utility PT-PLN, to co-develop the project under a 30-year concession. Velcan held a direct 70 per cent stake, with a further 5 per cent owned through its wholly owned local project partner PT-PPC. PT-PJB held the remaining 25 per cent stake.
