"The hydropower landscape is ever changing, and the BHA is very engaged in represent-ing national interests on numerous fronts to ensure we safeguard hydropower for this and future generations", CEO Simon Hamlyn said during his introduction to the annual conference. Andy Billcliff (Former Chairman of the BHA) noted that more than 30 speakers had been scheduled to discuss challenges facing the industry, including the Feed-in-Tariff (FiT), grid connectivity and prominent environmental and social concerns. A keynote address was delivered by Fergus Ewing MSP, (Minister for Energy and Tourism, Scottish Government). He felt the theme of the conference, 'Facing the future together' was very apt. "The primary duty of the Scottish Government is achieving sustainable economic growth, and this includes hydropower sector success", he said. "There is a need to navigate together to build an indigenous supply of electricity", he said. This point had been underlined by the recent challenges facing Ukraine, where the vulnerability to a reliance on energy imports is very apparent.
