The UK Government has given the go-ahead to a £1 billion project to build the world's first tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay, Wales. The Department of Energy and Climate Change has given planning consent for the construction of the lagoon, which will use the ebb and flow of the tide to generate electricity. Tidal Lagoon (Swansea Bay) PLC was set up as a special purpose vehicle company to construct and operate the 320 MW plant. TLSB contracts development services from Tidal Lagoon Power Ltd (TLP) a business established in 2012 to provide UK expertise in tidal range renewables, specifically covering development, planning, engineering, environmental aspects, finance and programme management services.
