Iran is to build a series of small-scale hydroelectric powerplants in Indonesia, under an agreement signed in late May in Tehran, during a visit by a delegation of Indonesian trade and economy officials. The powerplants will be constructed by Iranian companies, Iran's Minister of Energy, Hamid Chitchian, said after a meeting on 24 May with the Indonesian Economy Minister Sofyan Djalil. Djalil, who headed the Indonesian delegation for the 11th Iran-Indonesia joint economic commission, said that Indonesia plans to construct 48 small hydropower schemes in the next five years. Memoranda of understanding were signed by the two countries to cooperate in the fields of industry, investment, trade, customs and banking.
