摘要

Mambilla is certainly one of the most outstanding projects in Africa as regards the number and scale of the structures and works involved, as well as the very high head and huge underground works, and the large installed capacity. Three high dams requiring some 7 × 10~6m~3 of concrete, 23 km of tunnelling, 0.5 × 10~6m~3 of excavation for the cavern, 2.5 km of shaft sinking, as well as many ancillary works, represent a vast challenge in one of the remotest regions of Nigeria. Added to this are the unusual technical features of the Pelton units. The experience for the owner, contractor and consultant will be challenging: all stakeholders are ready to face the task with a bold but prudent spirit, and full consciousness of the associated responsibility.
