The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has announced the construction of a new hydropower plant, which will be in Nayarit, Las Cruces. The plant will have a total installed capacity of 240 MW, and is expected to produce 751 GWh/year, equivalent to meeting 77 per cent of the annual energy demand of Nayarit. The work includes a 185 m-high dam, to impound approximately 2.4 × 10~6 m~3 of water. The plant is located in the central part of Nayarit, 104 km north of the city of Tepic and 25 km northeast of the town of Ruiz. Construction of the project is expected to take four years and it is expected to cost US$615 million.
