The Inter-American Development Bank invited expressions of interest in December from consultants for a contract to modernize the environmental management of the 1890 MW Salto Grande hydroelectric complex on the Uruguay river, between Concordia in Argentina and Salto in Uruguay. Expressions of interest were due by 24 January. The contract, to be financed by the IDB through a loan awarded to the Comision Tecnica Mixta Salto Grande, requires identification of areas where environmental management can be updated, taking into account new and available technologies and practices in the field; and the development of an environmental management plan for the medium and long term of the complex, comprising existing information and existing environmental studies. The medium- and long-term investment plan will incorporate recommendations from studies, and should aim to ensure the extended life of the complex for the next 30 years.
