Tijoa Participacoes e Investimentos, a unit of Triunfo, one of Brazil's leading infrastructure investors, has received an environmental operating licence for the 807.5 MW Tres Irmaos hydroelectric plant on the Tiete river in the central Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. The licence, awarded by the environmental regulator for the state of Sao Paulo, Companhia Ambiental do Estado de Sao Paulo, allows Tijoa to assume responsibility for the plant's operations with immediate effect. Tijoa was set up in August this year in partnership with the regional power utility Furnas, to operate and maintain the 20-year-old plant after winning an auction held in March. The newly established entity signed a 30-year concession agreement for operation of the plant with the Ministry of Mines and Energy in September, after approval of the results of the Government's auction by the national electricity sector watchdog ANEEL.
