Turkish independent power producer, Ayen Enerji, which is majority-owned by Aydiner Insaat, announced on 31 May the commissioning of the 70 MW Buyukduz hydropower plant near Trabzon in northeastern Turkey. The run-of-river project, in the Kurtun district of the eastern Black Sea province of Gumushane, is the company's third hydropower station, and will increase its total installed capacity to 398.5 MW. The plant, which is equipped with two 35 MW turbines and generators supplied by Alstom Hydro, was part financed through a € 48 million, 12-year loan awarded in August 2010 by Turkiye Is Bankasi. Ayen Enerji was awarded a 49-year generating licence for the project in March 2008.
