Ecuador has signed an agreement with the Russian Eximbank for US$ 123 million of finance towards the cost of the generating equipment for the 253 MW Toachi Pilaton hydro projects, which extends across the provinces of Pichincha, Santo Domingo and Cotopaxi, Ecuador. Three Francis units are to be installed at the plant; an additional mini hydro unit (1.4 MW) is to be insalled at the toe of the dam, to exploit the ecological flows. Work is underway at the site, and the 168 m-long diversion tunnel is reported to be complete.
