Cape Verde has a total land area of 4033 km~2 and a population of 523 570 (2012 estimate). The National Water Council (CNAG), an inter-ministerial institution led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, is responsible for the management of the water resources of the country. The executive organ of CNAG is the National Institute for Water Resources Management (INGRH). Empresa de Electricidade et Agua (Electra) is responsible for the distribution of water and electricity. In 2010 (latest available data) Electra produced 4675 × 10~6m~3 of water in 2010, 92 per cent from desalination. The company sold 2970 × 10~6m~3 of water to domestic customers.
