The Romaine river has a watershed of 14 500 km2. It lies between Labrador, to the north and the St. Lawrence river, to the south. Fig.l shows the project location. The river flows 500 km before discharging into the St. Lawrence at an annual mean flow of 327 nrVs. The area to be modified by the four planned reservoirs covers a nearly 300 km stretch of the Romaine. Only the first 51 km from its mouth are accessible to salmon, their migration being limited by a high waterfall where the Romaine-1 dam will be built.
