Germany's first commercial offshore wind farm, consisting of 21 Siemens wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW, has just been commissioned. The EnBW Baltic 1 covers an area of about 7 km2 in the Baltic Sea, approximately 16 km north of the Darss/Zingst peninsula. The total installed capacity is 48.3 MW. Electricity is delivered at 150 kV to the substation platform and then transported to the coast through a 60 km-long submarine cable. From the edge of the Baltic Sea, the electricity flows through a ground cable to the Bentwisch substation, where it is transferred to the mains network.
