The Republic of Korea (South Korea) covers an area of 99 475 km~2; it has a population of 48.6 million (July 2010).rnThe average annual precipitation is 1245 mm. About two-thirds of precipitation occurs in the flood season (June to September), and most discharges directly into the sea. The total mean annual runoff is 72.3 km~3.rnThe total water consumption in 2007 was 33.7 km~3, distributed as follqws: domestic (23 per cent), agriculture (47 per cent), industry (8 per cent) and other (22 per cent).
