摘要

A device that can detect the wind's speed and direction five or six seconds before it reaches the blades of an operating wind turbine has been developed and validated at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) by T. Mikkelsen and colleagues. A LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) sensor spins round with the turbine and can detect the approaching wind pattern with enough time to activate the blade control mechanisms. This means that the blades can always be controlled in time to exploit the wind regime to the maximum, and they can also be angled to prevent damage by gusts. Both these characteristics will improve the overall efficiency of the turbine and reduce its down time.
