摘要

The Republic of Honduras covers an area of 112 491 km~2 and has a population of about 7.54 million (2007). The average annual precipitation is about 1800 mm, and the total average precipitation volume is 202.58 km~3. The main authority in the water sector is Secretaria de Recursos Naturales y Ambiente (SERNA), which is the Secretariat in charge of the energy, natural resources and environment sectors. The use of river basins for hydro projects is regulated by this entity. The Government carries out the distribution of water for domestic consumption through one of its autonomous companies called Servicio Autonomo Nacional de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (SANAA). There are nine large dams in operation. There are no dams higher than 60 m under construction, but three high dams are planned: Patuca 2, El Tablon and El Remolino, all for hydro.
