With the lowering into place of the new turbine runner, the Waldeck I refurbishment scheme in Germany has now entered a crucial stage. "Weighing 8 tonne and with a diameter of 2.85 m, the runner is relatively small in size", commented Voith Siemens Hydro's site supervisor Herbert Mildner at the site, before the turbine, supplied by his company, was lowered into the pit. "But nevertheless the last meters of the lowering are always extremely fine handiwork", said Mildner.
