Raising the height of the San Vicente dam, near San Diego in California, USA, will enable the reservoir to play an important role in ensuring adequate water supplies for the region in the event of drought, strong earthquakes or disruption to normal supplies. An additional 188 × 10~6m~3 of emergency carryover storage will be available at the dam. Water can also be stored in periods of extended rainfall for use during dry periods. RCC has been chosen for the 35.7 m heightening scheme, for technical and economic reasons.
