As we went to press, news was received of the failure of the Redlands embankment dam, 70 km from the village in Supai, near the Grand Canyon, in Arizona, USA. No casualties have been reported, but several hundred people were evacuated from the area, some by helicopter. The breach occurred following extremely heavy rainfall in the area; the only structural damage reported so far relates to footbridges and hiking trails. (Further report in Issue 5).
