A celebration to mark the 80th Anniversary of the International Commission on Large Dams was held at the Palais de la Decouverte in Paris on 24 November. The event, attended by more than 500 current and past ICOLD officers and members from all parts of the world, as well as various invited speakers, focused on the theme of 'Dams for Human Sustainable Development'. Speakers in the Opening Ceremony included: ICOLD President Prof Luis Berga; Hon. President G. Lombardi; former Chinese Minister of Water Resources Wang Sucheng; Burkina Faso's Deputy Minister in charge of Agriculture, A. Cambary; P. Delliou, President of the French National Committee on Large Dams; F. Guinot, President of the National Academy of Technologies of France; P-A. Wiltzer, former President of Agence Francaise de Developpe-ment; C. Kert, Reporter to France's Parliamentary Office for the Evaluation of Scientific Choices; and, C. Nahon, Director of Sustainable Development at EDF.
