I am very thankful to the Editors of the International Journal of Information Technologies and Systems Approach (IJ1TSA) for the invitation to pay tribute to Prof. Russell Ackoff as a Scientist. Russ's publications strongly influenced my formation, knowledge and experience in the field of Systems Approach, as it happened with many scholars and professionals of my generation as well as of the previous and later ones. But, nevertheless, I feel that the main debt I owe him is to speak about Russ as a colleague and friend, whose very kind and special personal attention and aid helped me to escape from the former Soviet Union and to find my place in the new world and new life.
