Leaving aside its uninspiring title, derived from Office of Strategic Services (OSS) leader William J. "Wild Bill" Donovan's remark that Lee was "a very high-principled boy...and would not disclose any classified material," Mark Bradley's very readable book draws upon Duncan Lee's personal correspondence and on thousands of newly released Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and U.S. State Department documents. Bradley vividly portrays Lee's many faces: devoted son; young devotee of Christianity; exceptional student; talented lawyer; husband and loving father of five; serial philanderer; OSS operative; Communist spy; Cold Warrior; and fugitive from justice.
