"Futuristic" discs with a storage capacity 2,000 times that of current DVDs could be "just around the corner", thanks to new research from Swinburne University of Technology in Australia. The University says'that researchers from its Centre for Micro-Photonics have, for the first time, demonstrated how nanotechnology can enable the creation of 'five dimensional' discs with huge storage capacities.rnThe team has published a paper in Nature describing their work with five-dimensional optical recording, which could lead to these massive increases in the storage capacities of a standard (12 cm) DVD-sized optical disc.
