摘要

This article proposes a Hierarchical Block-ring Organization (HBO) model to address the fault-tolerance issue related to path-based multicast schemes. Associated with this model, a top-down block-ring chain construction process is devised for the implementation of a fault-tolerant (FT) path-based multicast scheme, the FT-HBO scheme. Simulation results show that, in fault-free systems, the FT-HBO scheme is superior to some of the existing path-based multicast schemes in terms of communication latency. For faulty systems, the FT-HBO scheme can achieve a reliable communication with a probability approaching 100%. for cases with no more than two faults. Furthermore, in the FT-HBO scheme, the communication latency overhead caused by faults is only moderate.
