This beautifully produced and lavishly illustrated paperback book draws on a study carried out by Robert Freestone and colleagues for the Australian Federal Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, and the Australian Heritage Council, commissioned in 2006. Freestone, Professor of Planning and Urban Development at the University of New South Wales, is the major exponent of Australian planning history, being the author of many important books, articles and research projects over the past 20 or more years. His reputation is not confined to Australia: he is active in promoting the study of planning history more generally, and has served as President of the International Planning History Society. Urban Nation displays his expertise and extensive knowledge to the full.
