There was good news for the power industry in March when the UK's National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) released its latest, report: ELF Electromagnetic Fields and the Risk of Cancer. The report, by the Advisory Group on Non-Ionising Radiation, concluded that "the scientific evidence suggesting that exposure to power frequency electromagnetic fields poses an increased risk of cancer is very weak."rnThe advisory group, chaired by Sir Richard Doll of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Studies Unit at Oxford, reviewed experimental and epidemiolog-ical studies that have been published since 1992. They concluded that there was "no good evidence that extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields are capable of causing cancer, nor do human epidemiological studies suggest that they cause cancer in general."
