Deregulation and competitive pressures in the power and gas sector, combined with advances in technology, are forcing major utilities to come to terms with the most radical change imaginable. These companies must transform themselves from cost-plus dinosaurs into high-performance enterprises based around a model which completely integrates their power operations with market trading. Ultimately, this is the only way they will be able to survive in an ever more competitive world where, fuelled by new technology, the leading players aggressively push the pace of change.
