The first section of the Sin Bundang Line was officially opened on October 28 in the Korean capital Seoul, with revenue service starring the following day. The 18.5km line with six stations runs from Gangnam south to Bundang and interchanges with three existing lines. The project has been implemented as a public-private partnership by the government and Doosan Engineering & Construction Consortium. Hyundai Rotem has supplied a fleet of 12 six-car trains, while Thales has installed its SelTrac moving-block communications-based train control (CBTC) system. This allows trains to operate entirely automatically without drivers at up to 90km/h underground.
