Algeria's minister of transport Mr Amar Tou was among the dignitaries welcoming the arrival of the first of 41 Citadis LRVs for Algiers' new light rail network on March 18 (pictured).rnThe initial 23km line will run from Carrefour du Ruisseau to Boumedienne University and Bourdj el Kiffan before terminating at Dergana, close to the airport.rnThe line is being built by a consortium of Alstom; ETRHB, Algeria; and Todini, Italy, and will be operated under a 10-year concession by Keolis.rnMeanwhile, trial operation has begun on the initial section of the Algerian capital's first metro line. Siemens Mobility, which is leading thernconsortium of CAF, Spain, and Vinci Construction Grands Projets, France, building the metro, hosted a group of Algerian ministers for a ride on the first test train. The next milestone will be to run a train over the entire 9km line.
