Prior to the start of ITMA 1999, exhibitors as well as visitors were cautiously optimistic about the show. The exhibitors feared that ITMA would not bring about the essential stimulation for business, and the visitors did not expect much in terms of novelties. Both groups rushed to Paris, therefore, driven by a mere sense of duty, but in doing so both groups were quite wrong.
